The Year of
Eff Yes Living. (EYL)
Wake up & start living; the longer you wait for the future, the shorter it will be.
A few months back, I decided to embrace a new mindset, a new outlook-- the idea of "Eff Yes Living" (or EYL). Basically, this concept boils down to the following sentence— if any given process or outcome is not a resounding "EFF Yes!", it’s a no.
|
It is my humble opinion that you should be excited, engaged— ecstatic about your life, your decisions— big ones, small ones, and everything in-between.
As my thought provoking hippie soul sister Miss Danielle Doby stated, "Happiness doesn't just happen to you. Which is why it isn't called happen–ess. Happiness is a choice. Every day. Every moment, a choice. Choose it now." Your vision matters. |
We should actively be avoiding “auto-pilot”.
"We exist on this earth for some undetermined period of time. During that time we do things. Some of these things are important. Some of them are unimportant. And those important things give our lives meaning and happiness. The unimportant ones basically just kill time. For many of us, the enemy is just old-fashioned complacency. We get into our routines. We distract ourselves. The couch is comfortable. The Doritos are cheesy. And nothing new happens” -Mark Manson. |
Recognize that you are the CEO of your life, the author of your book, the artist of your canvas. Evaluate the people, possessions, and processes in your life; then restructure, redistribute, promote, demote, or terminate as you see fit.
"If you have to force it, leave it. Relationships. Friendship. Yoga poses. Perfect ponytails. Let that shit go" -Danielle Doby.
"What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it"-Unknown.
|
While I feel as though it is of utmost importance to operate with integrity— (honoring your responsibilities, and living life with a strong moral compass) there are choices available to us. Just because an opportunity is presented to us, doesn't mean that is is "right" for our lives. We must get over the notion that we “have” to do x, y, or z based on societal pressures or social norms. Does the opportunity excite you? If so, "listen to your yes. That spine tickling sensation, those soul sparking goosebumps, the feeling with no name. Your ethereal being. Let it have its way with you. Let it guide you home, it already knows the way" -Danielle Doby.
|
And if you come across something that isn't your jam, embrace the power of “no”. Your ability to say no is a way of "constantly reducing, focusing and simplifying... purposefully, deliberately, and strategically eliminating the nonessentials" -Greg McKewon.
With that being said, I challenge you to the following four steps:
|
An "Eff Yes" doesn't mean easy, it means you're willing to put in the work.
Never stop dreaming; anything is possible. Be cognizant of the life you are creating, live with intent. As Tony Gaskins said, “If you don’t build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs.”
Make the most of this moment, this moment is your life. I think that we all have the ability to lead lives that energize our soul, and fill our bodies with vigor. In 2016 (and any subsequent time) be true to thyself— be YOU, everyone else is already taken. "If I could wish for you anything in the new year to come, is that you follow your feelings. Your sensation that lives just outside of your skin + deep in your soul. That's your yes. And your yes matters. Let it lead you, in all you do" -Danielle Doby.
