Today, March 30th is National Take a Walk in the Park Day, and Wednesday is National Walking Day. Personally, I think that these are two spectacular holidays. In my humble opinion, it would behoove all of us to make every day a holiday, and incorporate walking into our daily routine.
"Now is the time to be healthy. Inner and outer health are interconnected. One can't be without the other. When we are fully present, we don't feel disconnected, but rather listen to the appetite for them. The appetite deep within urges for what is most affirming. To be healthy, to be here now"-Garni Sohrabian
"For one minute, walk outside, stand there, in silence, look up at the sky, and contemplate how amazing life is." Unknown |
A walk in the park does a body good: fresh air, Vitamin D, tall trees, birds chirping, deep breathing, beautiful scenery, wildlife, flowers, sunrises, sunsets, affectionate couples enjoying picnics, children frolicking in the background--what's not to love?

Walking forces us to take time to smell the roses. To be centered. To be focused. To be present. Many people enjoy the therapeutic, calming effects of walking meditation as a way to refocus, re-energize, and recharge.

Walking is beneficial not only to your mental health, but your physical self as well. Walking can be your path to health.
“Paths are made by walking” Franz Kafka In a previous blog post I asked you what your biggest barrier was when talking about fitness. I listed several factors: cravings, lack of time, lack of energy, chronic illness, or discouragement from not seeing "quick results". Overwhelmingly, your response was chronic illness. Although it is truly disheartening to hear that many of you are battling with your health, I believe that "walking workouts" might be the ideal solution to heal your body, mind, and spirit. |
Even 15 minutes can supercharge your health. Walking has a multitude of benefits, it: boosts your immune system, burns calorie, improves balance, engages core muscles, improves posture, boosts endorphins, improves blood pressure, reduces the risk of osteoporosis, improves heart health, reduces the risk of colon cancer, improves circulation, and frankly just makes you feel good!

Walking can be a wonderful activity to partake in as a solo event, with a friend, with a coworker, or as a formal business meeting. It can be an excellent venue to mull over a new idea, or find a creative solution to a problem. Some of my best conversations, and deepest thoughts have struck while walking or hiking.
“All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” Friedrich Nietzsche |
Is the nice weather taking its sweet time to hit your area? If so, you could always hit up the gym, or walk indoors at a local mall to get some miles in.***PS: The Charity Miles App will allow you to log treadmill miles too!
Wishing you a healthy, happy week filled with sunshine and exercise.
Namaste,
Christy
